Family Hike to Mt. McCoy, Simi Valley

I always wanted to start my blog with something fun and adventurous. Though 2016 did start with a major overseas trip but I was too lazy to document it. Maybe sometime later. So last week when despite drizzling we decided to go for a hike I knew it was my A-ha moment. We have hiked before but never as a family.

Mt. McCoy in Simi Valley is a sweet, do-able hike around 2 miles with an elevation gain of almost 600 ft. It is known for its characteristic 12 foot white cross on the top. Since it was an unplanned hike we did not have any water with us. We were able to do the entire loop within an hour with our 9 and 6 year old. Hats off to them for being such good sport.

Update: I recently went hiking at Mt. McCoy with a friend. We were able to do the entire loop in under 1 hour. It was super windy which made it more fun. As we reached the cross at top, it was really hard to stand straight as the wind was pushing us in all direction. The view from the top in beautiful. You enjoy a 360 degree view of Simi Valley.

Here are some pictures from our hike.
